Why are we having the “Blackwood Town Centre Tomorrow” conversation with our community?
Caerphilly County Borough Council has commissioned The Urbanists for the development of a Placemaking Plan for Blackwood town centre. The “Blackwood Town Centre Tomorrow” conversation will help ensure that the wants and needs of the community are reflected in this Placemaking Plan.
What is a Placemaking Plan?
A Placemaking Plan is a long-term plan for a place; they identify what is unique about the place and recommend projects and investment that could strengthen the place. Placemaking Plans provide the basic plan for the improvement of a place and ensure that all aspects that make a place great for living, working and visiting are taken into account. Successful Placemaking Plans are shaped by the knowledge of local experts (businesses and residents).
What’s the community’s role in shaping the Placemaking Plan and Blackwoods future?
To ensure that the needs and aspirations of the local community are reflected within the Placemaking Plan, an engagement strategy has been developed. The strategy identifies the local residents, business owners and local groups as key stakeholders to engage with.
September 2025
Placemaking Plans for Bargoed and Blackwood were adopted by the Council at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday 1st July 2025.
CCBC Officers will continue to engage with key stakeholders to implement the Plans.
