Caerphilly Heritage – Interpretive Signage

The Public Rights of Way Team at Caerphilly County Borough Council are delighted to share that funding has been awarded through the Welsh Government's Access Improvement Grant, to install new informational and interpretation signage at heritage and historic sites located on, or close to, public rights of way (footpaths, bridleways and restricted byways).

The project aims to provide information about the area's rich cultural and historic assets while supporting a key theme of the Council's Economic and Regeneration Strategy 'Place', which seeks to ensure that Caerphilly is an attractive place to live, work and visit.

We are seeking expressions of interest from history societies, residents, community groups, and organisations to identify locations with strong local stories that could celebrate local heritage and enhance our public rights of way network.

Schemes which are already designed and costed are favoured given the time constraints on the funding.

• Natural/Landscape

We are keen to celebrate and promote Caerphilly's rich heritage and historic landmarks, helping residents and visitors discover, learn about and enjoy these important local assets. Through the installation of interpretation and information signage, we aim to enhance the experience of those using our public rights of way network by providing greater insight into the history, culture and significance of places along walking, cycling and riding routes.

Expected Outcomes

Following any successful proposals, we will contact and liaise with the applicants to install high-quality information signage, to create a more engaging and informative experience for public rights of way users; encouraging greater use of the network and improving understanding of the county borough’s rich heritage.
