Why are we consulting?

Each year, the Council is required to agree the Council Tax rate and set a balanced budget.

On 12th January 2026, the council’s Cabinet agreed that the draft budget proposals for 2026/27 would be subject to a period of consultation prior to being presented to Cabinet and Council on the 24th of February 2026.

Key features of the 2026/27 budget proposals include:

• An extra £9.6m for adult and children’s social care.

(Including an extra £0.690m to provide fee payments for Kinship Foster Carers to bring them in line with other Caerphilly Foster Carers to help keep children safe, cared for, and in a family home.)

• Schools will receive an extra £3.7m.

• Plans to increase the council’s cleaning and greening budget by 50 per cent.

• Permanent and temporary savings totalling £12.4million including £2.089m of Savings proposals where decisions have already been taken and £5.6million savings target as part of the council’s transformation programme.

• A 3% increase on all Fees and Charges totalling £0.377m.

• Council Tax to increase by 6.25%. An increase in the Band D precept from £1,560.63 to £1,658.17 (weekly increase of £1.88).
