New Tredegar proposed operating model
Consultation has concluded
Following the Stage 2 engagement regarding the proposed operating model for New Tredegar Leisure Centre, it is now confirmed that the preferred operating model will be implemented from 1st April 2026.
The leisure centre will open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 8pm throughout the year, and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm from 1st September to 31st March when demand is highest.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views during the engagement period. All feedback was carefully reviewed alongside usage data, financial information and operational considerations. The engagement highlighted the importance of the leisure centre as a community space, particularly in relation to health, wellbeing and accessibility. While the final decision reflects the need to ensure the long-term sustainability of the service, the feedback received has informed the approach to implementation and ongoing monitoring of the centre’s operation.
The full engagement report is available and provides a detailed summary of the responses received and how they were considered as part of the decision-making process.

New date - Monday 15th December 5pm to 8pm
Caerphilly County Borough Council has shared a proposed new operating model for New Tredegar Leisure Centre, following the cabinet decision earlier this year and a detailed review of feedback from previous engagement with users, clubs and the local community.
Why are we consulting?
The preferred model aims to balance community access with the financial pressures facing the service and reflects usage patterns across the year. Under the proposal, the leisure centre would open:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 8pm throughout the year
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm during the winter months when demand for club and community activity is highest
Ways to give your views
To support the next stage of engagement, the Council will host two in person drop-in sessions at New Tredegar Leisure Centre. These sessions are designed primarily for current users to view the proposal, ask questions and share any final practical feedback. Local stakeholders will also be welcome to contribute.
The following sessions will take place at New Tredegar Leisure Centre:
- Morning session: Thursday 4th December 10:30am to 1:30pm
Afternoon session: Tuesday 9th December 5pm to 8pm- Afternoon session - Monday 15th December 5pm to 8pm
Expected outcomes
After the drop-in sessions, the Council will review all feedback before confirming final operational arrangements.
This work supports the wider ambition of the Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy, which focuses on creating opportunities for residents to stay active, healthy and connected within their communities.
